They range from information system professionals in the utilities industry to academics and those who use IS tools in their jobs. Topics range from the technical (on geopositioning models), to the use of GIS as a tool in the planning profession, to examples of pilot projects in the municipal or provincial sphere. The Chapter also produces the URISA Alberta Chapter Newsletter on a quarterly basis. We encourage your input in the form of comment or discussion on information system issues. Luncheons (with an invited speaker) are held a minimum of two times in each of Calgary and Edmonton. These luncheons provide the Executive and membership with an opportunity to develop and maintain contact with others who are involved in the IS industry. So why join URISA Alberta? Membership benefits include a reduced rate at local luncheons, a 10% discount at the Computer Books & Supplies stores located in Calgary and Edmonton, and a discount rate at the annual conference held in Edmonton or Calgary. The luncheons and annual convention provides opportunities for you to interact with colleges who have a similar professional interest. Below is a pie chart that shows our membership representation. Our membership is split 50 – 50 between the north and south regions ( with anything north of Red Deer being in the North Region). Membership comes from municipalities, consultants, vendors, educational institutions, the Provincial Government, utility companies and others (no company name).
